Visa invitation letter scam attempt. Afghan number (+93) contacted our business WhatsApp, showed zero interest in any product, and within one minute asked directly: "Dear Can your company process verified invitation letters?" Classic scheme: obtain a Chinese business invitation letter from a legitimate company to fraudulently support a visa application — no purchase ever intended. Full conversation was only 4 messages. Wrong Number / Pig Butchering
Classic "wrong number" pig-butchering opener. US number (+1 760) contacted our business WhatsApp, then claimed "I mistook you for Monica from Vivi's company", apologized, and immediately pivoted to personal small talk ("I noticed your number is from China. Are you Chinese too?"). Profile: verified WhatsApp Business account named "Kevin", avatar of a well-dressed Asian man painting, listed as "web designer" at Taikoo Place, 979 King's Road, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong — location inconsistent with the US number. - Task / Part-Time Job ScamYou're offered easy paid tasks with small early payouts to build trust, until bigger commissions require you to top up your own money first, unreturned.
- Advance Fee (Visa/Loan/Customs)A promised visa letter, loan, inheritance, or held shipment requires an upfront processing or customs fee before release. The fee is the scam itself.
- Money / Currency Exchange ScamA stranger offers an unusually good exchange rate or urgently wants to buy your currency, pressuring you to transfer first, then vanishes with your money.
- Phishing LinkA message urges you to click a link and log in, often mimicking a bank, delivery service, or WhatsApp itself, to steal your credentials or verification codes.
- Impersonation (Bank/Government)A contact claims to be your bank, tax office, or another authority, warning of a frozen account or unpaid fine to pressure you into an urgent payment.
- OTP / Verification Code ScamA contact asks you to read out or forward a one-time passcode you just received, often claiming it was sent by mistake, to hijack your account.
- Lottery / Prize ScamYou're told you won a lottery or prize you never entered, then asked to pay a processing or customs fee before the nonexistent prize can be released.
- Package Delivery ScamA message claims your parcel is stuck at customs or awaiting redelivery and asks for a small payment or personal details via a link, usually phishing.
- Tech Support ScamA contact claims your device or account has been compromised and offers to fix it if you install remote-access software or pay for unnecessary support.
- Sextortion / BlackmailAfter coaxing you into intimate photos or video, the contact threatens to send it to family or colleagues unless you pay. Paying never ends it.
- Extortion / ThreatsA contact threatens to leak your private chats, data, or contacts, or threatens violence or false charges against you or your family, unless you pay right away.

How do I check if a WhatsApp number is a scammer?
Paste the full number (with country code) into the search box — you'll land on that number's case file showing every report against it. A match means someone already flagged it; no match doesn't guarantee safety, it just means nobody has reported it yet.
Is it dangerous to reply to a message from an unknown number?
Replying tells the sender your number is active, and the friendly "sorry, wrong number" chat is a known opener for long-con investment scams. The safest move is to not engage at all — search the number here, and block and report it in WhatsApp if it looks suspicious.
