The Scammer Case File extension lives inside WhatsApp Web: every chat you open is checked against the community case file, and reporting a scammer takes one click — with the conversation already filled in as evidence.
How to install
The Chrome Web Store listing is pending review, so for now the extension installs the same way any unpacked Chrome extension does — no account, no permissions beyond what's listed below.
- Download the .zip below and unzip it — this creates a folder with the extension's files.
- Open chrome://extensions in Chrome (paste that into the address bar).
- Turn on "Developer mode" using the toggle in the top-right corner.
- Click "Load unpacked" and select the unzipped folder.
- Open web.whatsapp.com — the extension is now active. Reload the tab if it was already open.
What it does
One-click reporting
A floating report button opens a prefilled form — the contact's name, number, and their recent messages already in place. Pick a scam type, complete the human check, submit. The report is live immediately.
Honest by design
No green checkmarks, no "verified safe" claims. The extension repeats the site's rule everywhere: reports are community-submitted warning signs, not verdicts.
Why check numbers while you chat, in official numbers
Checking inside the chat matters because WhatsApp is where a large share of these scams start. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center logged 1,008,597 complaints with $20.9 billion in reported losses in 2025 — up 26% from 2024 — and the FTC singles the platform out:

Why isn't it on the Chrome Web Store yet?
It's pending Chrome Web Store review. Until it's approved, install it manually from the .zip download above — that's the same code the Store listing will ship, just loaded as an unpacked extension. This page will switch to a Store link once it's live.
Does the extension read my chats?
It reads the open chat locally in your browser, only to show the lookup badge and to prefill a report you explicitly start. Nothing is sent anywhere until you click Submit — and then only what you see in the form.
Why does the badge show a question mark instead of a green check?
Because "no reports yet" is not proof a contact is safe — it only means nobody has filed a report. A green check would be a false safety signal, so the extension deliberately stays neutral.
Does it work with saved contacts?
The automatic lookup needs the phone number, which WhatsApp Web only shows in the header for numbers not in your contacts. For saved contacts, open the report modal and type the number — the rest still prefills.
Is it free?
Yes — free, open source, no account, and it talks to the same public API (the MCP endpoint) any AI agent can use.
