Fake Job Offer

What is a Fake Job Offer scam?

A recruiter contacts you unprompted with a high-paying, low-effort job, then asks for an upfront "registration" or "training" fee, or for banking details, before any real interview happens.

2 reports on file · refreshed live on every request · most recent

Red flags to watch for

  • The recruiter reached out first, on WhatsApp, for a role you never applied to.
  • Pay sounds high for the effort described, and the "interview" is a chat, not a call.
  • You are asked to pay for training, a starter kit, or "registration" before working a single day.
  • The company has no verifiable website, or the site was registered within the last few months.

What to do

Stop responding once a fee is mentioned. Verify the company through its own official site and a search for its name plus "scam" -- not through any link the recruiter sent. Never pay to get hired, and never share ID or banking details before a verified, in-person or verified-video interview.

How common this is, officially

IC3's "Employment" category received 24,688 complaints in 2025, with reported losses of $363 million.

Frequently asked questions

How is a scam type determined for a report?

The reporter selects it when filing, from a fixed list of common patterns -- not inferred automatically from the notes.

What if a report matches more than one pattern?

Reporters pick the single closest match. Read the notes on each report for the full description, which often blends more than one tactic.

How often is this page updated?

Immediately — every count here reflects the reports on file in real time, not a periodic snapshot.

Report this to official agencies
